Welcome to the Africa Medical Education Network

Global medical education is the foundation of global health.

The use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) provides great potential for improving human lives through health delivery, access to medical knowledge, and enhancing sharing of information between US and African faculties and students.

Kenya is strategically positioned to capture those opportunities by coordinating the efforts of individual medical schools to develop a centralized mechanism to ensure equity in information sharing. The collaborations will enhance the quality of data management and effective information sharing between training institutions and health care providers at different levels of care delivery. A network for computer-aided instruction (CAI) in medical education combined with telemedicine to rural health care facilities would provide efficiencies of information management and an excellent balance between medical education and quality of care.

This collaboration between US medical schools, Kenyan medical schools, an NGO, and other partners is aimed at making medical schools in Kenya centers of excellence in training and continuing professional development in health information systems, disease surveillance, telemedicine, and health research. The purpose of this collaboration is to enhance medical training and delivery of health care service by:

    • Providing a forum for intellectual, cultural and technical interaction between Kenya and US faculties and students, and health care providers at all levels.
    • Promoting and facilitating mutual co-operation between US and Kenya in the building of intellectual capabilities in health care.
    • Facilitating the growth of intellectual, technical and cultural resources for health and for national development.
